My Colleagues Have Great Work-Life Balance (Thanks to Childless Me)

How often has this exact situation happened to you? If you’re living Child Free I can almost guarantee you’ve experienced this first hand.
It goes something like this:
Your working on a project with a colleague. This could be at work, school or somewhere else. The deadline is quickly approaching and you want to wrap everything up.
Suddenly your colleague says one of the following classic lines to you:
- I have to go pick my kids from daycare.
- My son is sick so I need to leave.
- School ends at 3pm, I have to go get my daughter.
- My son is an extra in a play as an extra without any lines. I need to go and see him NOT be a meaningful part of the production.
Ok I might have stretched that last one a little.
Now you’re on your own to finish everything by yourself, and don’t worry, your colleague who left early is guaranteed to take credit for the work.
I was actually surprised the NY Times posted this question and answer. (Even though they said Childless rather than Childfree!) Maybe we’re starting to see Child Free living to be more “acceptable” in public.
Has this happened to you?
Or should I ask: How many times has this happened to you?
